Enabling a New Era in Healthcare Delivery
Clinical Decision Support and Differential Diagnosis Using Mobile Computing AppsStephen Mlawsky, MD, CMM, FAAFPMedical Director, Founder, CEO of IatroCom
Abstract:
IatroCom is a closely held small company composed of doctors, computer engineers, and medical informaticists, founded by Dr. Mlawsky. We have designed and built a medical app named STATworkUP™ for iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch®, Mac®, and Android smartphones and tablets. It provides fast clinical decision support to help guide symptom (Sx) assessments, including fast correlated finding info, appropriate lab tests, differential diagnosis (DDx), plus related treatments (Rx).
STATworkUP contains a very robust multi-specialty database that is replete with great content and has a nice and fairly clean user interface that is fully relational. Our objective in developing it has been to put the power of smartphones and tablets to work by offering very useful and quick decision-support information to help busy clinicians do fast yet comprehensive, problem-oriented assessments. It is designed to help doctors, nurses, and their students deliver good care practices in the process of using it.
Our software development efforts began in 1985 for the Macintosh® computer. Throughout the years, our applications have become more sophisticated. In the 1990s, IatroCom marketed, advertised, and sold a product named MacON-CALL™ to doctors, nurses, and hospitals in 40 different countries around the world. Along the way, the application was internet-enabled. With the advent of mobile devices, it was obvious that these gadgets could leverage our work. In 2010, we released the derivative app named STATworkUP. The delivery of integrated info on mobile devices just made good sense for use in clinical settings. In 2020, we again ported STATworkUP to newer Mac® computers that can run the macOS 12.0+ operating system. https://www.STATworkUP.com
